And the worse part, I think, in camp was the boys were drafted. That made me cry because I’m thinking, that’s adding insult to injury. It’s bad enough that we are here because you don’t trust us, and then to have the nerve sticking us in camp, and then to draft our boys into war. And the sadder part is, after they’d been to boot camp, they got a furlough, they’d come to see their parents, do you know they were accompanied by soldiers while the parents and the son talked together. And I thought, how tragic! Your son is serving the country that put us here. He is serving to fight the country that’s attacked us, and here you are watching over him. But then, afterwards, later on in life, I heard Senator (Daniel) Inouye speak. He said when they were going to Europe, all their guns were taken away from them! And then, they got it back when they got there. They were members of the 442nd, the 100th Battalion, the most valiant group of men ever in the Armed Services, and yet they were taken…all that was taken away from them until they got to their destination. Isn’t this strange?
