But it was a sensation. We were in the papers and everything! And we didn’t know anything about those things. But people would be wrapped around the block! Movie people! Like Lloyd Bridges and his family. They were coming, and I said, “Gee, he looks familiar! I’ve seen him somewhere before!” And Betty Rhodes, who sang, and we had producers…all kinds of people!
S
This was the restaurant before the war?
K
No, after we came back. 6th and La Brea. A Chinese restaurant. They have a yard shop, now, or something.
S
What was is called?
K
It was called Tsing Tao. We just continued with the name they had. So, but the place was in the papers, and they said, “you were in the papers!” (inaudible word?), you know. And, oh, the Barrymore Family all came.
S
Oh, wow!
K
You know, and I thought, gee, you know here’s John Junior. And the little one…she was a baby I remember when I last saw her. But Dolores Costello, John Barrymore’s wife, she was there every week. And one year, what was his name, he’s a prominent actor, he wanted a big table, when she came in, in a chauffeur-driven car, in front of this little place. And they stood up at attention, and all by herself, she’d come in all gussied up. And it was just marvelous to watch this procession…Laird Cregar (note: the prominent actor). And she would sit down, and they would pay homage to her.
S
What was her name again?
K
Dolores Costello. She was John Barrymore’s wife.
