A friend of mine was an airline hostess, a stewardess, and she met a director who needed someone who was Japanese American. And they were doing a picture, “Go For Broke”, and they said they needed a Japanese wife. No, I take that back. Even before that, it was “Unchained Melody”. And there were, usually, Asians in the jails at the time, but it was in Chino. And was about, … Elroy Hirsch was in it, and so was Johnny Johnston. And so Bing Crosby’s wife was a player in that, and a number of others. But I was selected to play the wife of this fellow who played… he played in “Go For Broke”. In any case, so I was to play his wife. ‘Course, I ended up on the cutting floor but, you know, it was my first exposure to this world. And then from there, I kept getting calls because they needed people.
