we had Watazumi (Doso Roshi)(master of Shakuhachi) who stayed with us for over a month. Every time he came, he stayed with us when he was coming in.

He was always in marked garbs when he played the shakuhachi. And he played these shakuhachi (extending her arms), and that’s why all these shakuhachi players started to do this ‘cause he was playing shakuhachi that were 5 feet long. And he would use his toes to do the lower part.
But he would stop traffic because he would go and exercise at the Newbury Park near where we live, and he would be exercising at 3am with sticks. And the patrols would stop. They said, “Are you okay? Is there something wrong?”. And so, I had to call my nephew who was with the L.A. PD, and he notified everyone, this man is going to be doing this at this time, so don’t worry about it. He’s okay. But, you know, there were gangs in that area, but I didn’t worry about him because he was quite defensive and strong in those matters with his stick.
