My father had non-Japanese students with the shakuhachi. Some of them were just wonderful, just wonderful students. Uh-huh. They would come to the concert, and after it was over, they’d come and talk to us. They said, “You know, I’ve always wanted to learn this. Do you think I could come and study with you?” So eventually, we’d give them the address, phone number, and they would come. And that’s what happened. It really was quite an experience. It was wonderful! And my mother being a wonderful hostess, you know, we would have long lessons, and then we’d have lunch (laughing), Japanese, of course!
